About Us

Our credit union was organized on January 8, 1946. We are one of the oldest operating credit unions in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our credit union serves the people in the central part of the Upper Peninsula. Our office is located in Chatham Michigan with a population of approximately 2000 residents.

The Northern Lights Community FCU (Formerly Chatham Eben Coop FCU) was organized in the same way Chatham Coopertive Grocery Store was organized. It was a way for our small rural community to join forces and pool funds.  It enabled the members to be able to earn income on their investments and members could borrow at low interest rates. The first office was located inside the Chatham Cooperative Grocery Store. The credit union operated out of the back room in the grocery store for more than thirty years before moving to an empty building next door in 1978. In 1995 the credit union moved to a modern office building. That building served its purpose until 2003 when a new office was built on the main intersection in town.
